In the last few years, the food truck phenomenon has totally exploded, especially in the US. Artisan baristas on wheels and celebrity chefs have inspired fleets of similar trucks with followings for their Korean short-rib tacos, Texan barbecue, Indian dosas…. hell, there’s even Maine lobster and seared foie gras. You can get your chocolate chip cookies from Captain Cookie, your crab rolls from Feelin’ Crabby or your curry chicken from Jamaican Mi Crazy.
But you don’t spot many of these quirky trucks on the Cote d’Azur, tweeting their coordinates to hungry pilgrims…. that is, until now! Introducing Un Coup de Food – the retro, 50s inspired creation of Jessica Guérin. Jessica has cleverly combined her two passions—cooking and all things vintage—by unveiling her mobile gourmet cantine to the hungry people of Cannes. You can rock up to her kitschy diner for all sorts of yummy bagels, burgers, hotdogs, crêpes, candy floss, colourful cupcakes and sweet treats. Roller skates optional.
I found her at Nice during the OUiii L’Atelier exhibition, probably the most beautiful (and hipster) alternative wedding show I have ever seen. Needless to say, she is available for weddings, parties and other events. Doesn’t it make you want to live in an enormous house and throw a garden party… just so you can invite the truck?
Does anyone know of any other totally fun food trucks knocking around Nice?
